Overview

Neurealm architected and developed a Proof of Concept (PoC) for a sophisticated outdoor asset tracking system for a Middle-East systems company. The solution integrates Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), GPS, and LoRa technologies to provide a high-range, low-power positioning framework. This multi-protocol approach ensures accurate tracking with a focus on energy efficiency for long-term outdoor deployment.

Business Context

The client required a specialized tracking solution designed for large-scale outdoor environments where traditional connectivity may be limited. Key project requirements included:
Wide-Area Coverage: The system needed the ability to track assets over a broad geographical range.
Power Optimization: A critical need for a low-power design to extend the battery life of tracking devices.
Cost-Effective Infrastructure: Utilizing LoRa to provide long-range communication without the need for expensive cellular data for every individual asset.
Precision and Control: Achieving a balance of 10m accuracy while allowing flexible location updates and programming.

Solutions

Neurealm delivered an end-to-end architecture leveraging NRF-based devices and specialized RF protocols:
Intelligent Beacons: Developed BLE+GPS beacons that update coordinates only upon power-on or when an onboard accelerometer detects movement, drastically saving power.
Hybrid Tracking Tags: Assets are equipped with tags (BLE+LoRa) that receive local positioning signals from beacons and relay that data over a long-range RF band.
LoRa Gateway Integration: Implemented a gateway that collects tag data and transmits it over an IP network to IoT network servers for real-time monitoring.
Flexible Configuration: Provided an Android application enabling users to manually program beacon locations over BLE when necessary.
