The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading, governing, and delivering high-impact, complex projects or a small portfolio of interdependent projects. This role requires mastery in project and program management methodologies, exceptional leadership of large, cross-functional teams, and strict financial accountability to ensure strategic outcomes are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning & Governance
Project Definition: Define project scope, goals, objectives, and success metrics (KPIs) in collaboration with executive sponsors and key stakeholders.
Methodology Mastery: Lead the selection and tailoring of the appropriate delivery framework (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid, or SAFe) based on project scope and organizational maturity.
Resource & Budget Ownership: Develop comprehensive Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), secure necessary resources (human, technical, financial), and manage project budgets, including forecasting, tracking actuals, and reporting financial health.
2. Execution, Risk, and Stakeholder Management
Delivery Leadership: Drive the execution of project plans, milestones, and deliverables across diverse, often geographically distributed, cross-functional teams (Development, QA, Product, and Business Units).
Advanced Risk Management: Proactively identify, quantify, and mitigate high-impact risks and dependencies, developing sophisticated contingency and rollback plans.
Executive Communication: Serve as the primary communication bridge to executive leadership. Prepare and present regular, high-quality status reports, steering committee updates, and financial reviews clearly defining project progress, risks, and required executive decisions.
Change Control: Rigorously manage all scope changes through formal change request processes, ensuring impact on schedule and budget is documented and approved.
3. Quality & Process Improvement
Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce quality gates, ensuring all deliverables meet technical standards and defined acceptance criteria before sign-off.
Mentorship: Mentor and coach junior project managers and team leads on best practices, PMP methodologies, and conflict resolution techniques.
Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement within the PMO or project team by conducting thorough Lessons Learned sessions and implementing actionable process enhancements.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
Experience: 10–15 years of progressive experience managing complex, high-visibility IT or business transformation projects.
Certification : Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required.
Methodology: Expert command of both Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and traditional Waterfall methodologies. Experience managing projects within a scaled framework (e.g., SAFe) is highly desirable.
Tools: Expert proficiency with project management tools (MS Project or equivalent, Jira, Confluence) and advanced reporting/data visualization tools.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage matrixed teams of 15+ members across different departments and global locations.
Acumen: Strong business acumen and financial literacy (budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis).
